My wife uses a Shimano 2500 Sahara, I have a Sedona. They are great when they function, but need to be taken down and lines pretty often - if it's in your budget I've hard the Stradics are great

I'm partial to some older Daiwa reels but if I was going to buy today it would be a Shimano Stradic or Saros, size 3000. Mono is more forgiving than braid on a spinning reel because it won't form loops as readily if there is slack when the bail closes. Realistically anything over 10# mono won't work well on the size 2500 or 3000 reels unless you are throwing pretty heavy baits.
Might have some other recommendations after ICAST next week |

I have static and Soros in 3000 and 4000 size. 3000 is the best for an inshore to me. If your going to primarily fish reds then go with the 4000. I have also picked up a Penn and really do like it. In fact I think it might be one of my favorite reels right now. I spool all of my reels with 20# power pro.

I've got two sahara 2500 on 6'6" med/fast rods and they are great. They cast for a country mile and have generally held up well. I also bought a penn battle 4000 last year and love it but agree that a 4000 is a big reel for your everyday use.
I would buy penn battle over another sahara though. In my eyes they just seem to be holding up better. |

I fish big lake and use baitcasting reels. I' ve got new gear for quest and my wife. she cant fish with bait caster. I bougth 5 penn battles from adam guillory affordable fishing for 80 bucks apiece I have been very please. I have a couple of shinamo spins that I use and they are great. the lower end stuff has plastic parts that break down after a while. penns are all metal and have a nice drag 2500 or 3000 for inshore adams # is 5044607345 they are very attractive black and gold. Adam is a good guy to do business with.

If yall fish w/ a lot of live bait , a bait runner reel in whatever brand you decide on makes it easier.
