Default Hopedale 10/8/2014 - 10/9/2014

Went out of Breton Sound Marina this weekend.

Saturday: 50 Trout and 7 Reds
Sunday: 50 Trout and 3 Reds

Lures:
Clear and chartreuse sparkle beetles on a 1/8 oz Hogie jighead under a popping cork rigged with 20lb test leader.
H&H TKO shrimp in red flake and also gold flake.

Strike King 1XS in sexy shad and fire tiger.

Water temp:
62 degrees both days

Winds:
Gusting winds 8-10 mph on Saturday morning.
Winds 5-7 mph on Sunday dying off after lunch.

Patterns:
Saturday I found trout schooled up good in a canal adjacent to a grass flat. They were obviously waiting in line to eat up any bait that drifted past the flat and into the ravenous hordes. Me and my parter filled our limit within an hour and a half. Never tried different lures since they weren't being picky. Reds were all caught in the marsh with crank baits. Had 4 let go of the lures.

Sunday I went back and only caught 23 trout in the same spot from Saturday. It was obvious that the main school had moved off. Not a lot of action but still a few good keepers. Ran to the marsh and hooked and landed 3 reds and had a few more make a swipe at the crank baits. Made a run and ran towards some of the shallow protected lagoons and lakes. Drift fished pretty hard and finally limited out by the day's end.

Everything caught on artificials. Live bait would have been a waste with all the smaller trout mixed in with the keepers. A few solid 2 lbers were in the mix but most were just a little over legal size. I'm content with school trout.

After the fillet:
Almost all the trout had empty stomachs. Weird.

Note, those of you going to BSM better bring cash. The marsh fires have burned the telephone lines so their credit card machine isn't working. Also saw tons of boats heading to Delacroix in the mornings. Fall fishing is in mid swing.

Nice catch. Going brave the lake today and see if the trout really do go into a frenzy right before a front comes through.
