Default newq lease

Went to my new deer lease in San Saba, TX this weekend. Did a bit of work around the camp and filled the protein feeders. Here is one pic of a bachelor group of deer coming to a feeder on Saturday morning. From the looks of it it should be a good year!

Default protein

Our ranch manager feeds some type of range pellet. I don't really know what brand. I should have remembered since I opened an entire palat of bags and dumped them into a large grain unit.

Default which one to shoot

The only deer we will harvest out of this bunch is the one in the middle. He is a 9 pt. and the other 8 pts are all 2, 3, and 4 years old. We only shoot 5.5 year old trophy bucks or anything that has odd points - 3,5,7,9. The one on the right side may have a small point trying to show on his right tip but I can't see his left tip to see if his is going to be a 10. If he has only one extra tip that makes him a 9 pt then he, too, will be taken out of the herd. It sure is hard to watch these younger 8 pts come into the feeder and not shoot them. Patience pays off, though, as we will only harvest true trophy deer. Most of the 10s we will shoot will be 140-150 class deer. We also harvest all spikes that are over 3 inches tall. We shoot a fair number of does as well. This year our ranch will harvest 30 does and 14 bucks. The best part is that these antlers still have a couple of months of growth left! ! !

Dude that's awesome.

I don't even deer hunt but I've got buck fever just looking at that pic. I bet you're excited as hell.

Good luck this year.

Default Thanks

Yes, I am very excited. Can't wait for the opener in November. Until then we have to take a bunch of pictures with camera and trail cams and decide which ones of these bad boys we need to shoot! It will be fun!

Just to know, the deer all the way to the back left is a 2 year old as is the one all the way to the right. The other 3 deer are 3 year olds and need 2 more years to be shooters.. Man its gonna be a fun couple of years watching these deer mature.

All fairly young......Nice!

We have potential on our place....(10,000 acres) We kill some really nice big bodied deer 200lbs + with several 140" + every year, just can't get most our members to commit A strict program & we would have some absolute monsters there.

We're 4 pt or better on the lease I hunt on. I'll be joining the club next year and have already told my uncles, dad and grandpa that I'll be pushing for 6 pt or better the 1st day I become a member.
