580's all the way!!! Some people say they can't tell the difference, but I own 2 pairs of 580's and they hold up so much better than anything I have ever owned before. Had some Maui Jims that were good, but after a year, the scratches were horrible. These 580's appear to be bullet proof.

There is a reason for the difference in price, glass lens have better optic quality and are harder which means tougher.

580 glass. hands down. If you want plastic I would just get a pair of calcutta's and save some money.

that is what im worried about is the weight. I just ordered prescription lenes for my costas and they can only come in the 580 so im worried about the weight and how they'll hold up vers the plastic lenses.

Two pairs of 580's and love 'em. I don't think they are shatter proof, so be careful with any glass lens.

Weight isnt an issue. As long as they hold on your face you are good to go. And 580s all the way.

I promise you they will shatter/crack. I have two pairs and one is sitting at Costa getting new lenses right now. The first pair I sent back they deemed manufacturer defect and this pair is costing me a hundred bucks to replace. So I guess you have a 50/50 shot at having costa replace them at no cost.

Just a heads up....costa makes a plastic and glass 580. I have some plastic 580's,had them for over a year and scratches are not a issue. I do everything with them including cutting grass.

I have 2 pairs of 400s and 2 pairs of glass 580s. All 4 pairs have held up great. You won't notice much of a difference between the two just driving around town or watching a ball game. On the water though, the 580 lenses are game changers. It's definitely worth the extra money to get the 580s. Check out eBay because I got 2 great deals on my 580s - got them both cheaper than my 400s I bought from the store.

On the package it will say 580P or 580G. The glass ones are also more expensive. Most of the costa's on ebay are the plastic version.

580P are CR39 (PLASTIC) and should be on lens.

that is what im worried about is the weight. I just ordered prescription lenes for my costas and they can only come in the 580 so im worried about the weight and how they'll hold up vers the plastic lenses.

Always go with glass lens, durability, optic quality can't be matched by any plastic lens. The 580's are clearer and sharper contrast than any 400 series lens. My 400's are relagated to mowing the yard now.

Raymond...lens are no heaveir than normal...I'm getting my prescriptions repaired right now. Broke my tripletail frames. Now my first pair of prescriptions I scratched because stupidly I was wearing them while weedeating and something smacked my lens and left a small small scratch. Also I shattered my first pair. fell off the top of my head and hit the concrete dead center on the lens and CRACK. I will always have prescips...I love mine! Just gotta be careful. Its worth being able to see on the water.
