Cannot see the pic but I bet 34lbs of almost anything would be fun in a kayak.

Oh yeah. Fun in the kayak for sure. Was tailing like a red. Would have never kept him if it wasn't a rodeo.

were you on anchor when you hooked him? If not I bet that was a fun ride!

You're right, that's a nasty one.

I saw him tailing at a sand bar. I paddled over to him as I thought it was red at a distance. When I got over grass was torn up and stirred water. I saw a white object and never knew I was hooked up at first. When I felt tension he bee lined for deeper water but we were in an area of nothing but bars. He instantly swung me around and just about spooled me twice. I would dog drag down and back paddle until feet would reach bottom. I would then walk backwards in my kayak back towards shallow bar. I had to do that twice. Caught him on a Matthews custom rod with citica and 15lb braid. Took almost half an hour to get him to the side of the kayak. Entire fight from the kayak but could have gotten out. It was a hoot. There were 2 boats that came over too watch.

The only reason I kept mine was a tourney. If it would have been a red I would have released anyway. Hate to kill big reds. Useless to eat.
