Default BL report Wed 8/17-thurs 8/18

Wednesday: Took forever to get from Lafayette to hackberry but finally had boat in the water at 10am Wednesday. Launched at spicers and headed north to have a look at water, which was muddy and fresh. Caught a couple small flounder and ran south. Afternoon tide was ripping out, found a couple of small trout and lots of rat reds on flats near channel south of spicers despite water situation, and lots of bait. Saw zero boats on the water and zero cars at spicers.

Thursday:Flats on channel side of long point had birds and bait, but lady fish and a couple of small white trout under them. Stayed there way too long and eventually hit south end of lake. Water looked better, but tide had quit. Finally found a couple small trout and one 27" red that my cheap scale said was 9#, on another little flat by the channel down south. Rains started and stayed steady rest of the day.

White Gulp swimming mullet caught most.
Lots of bait around despite water situation.
South end not as bad as I'd thought, just there at the wrong time I think.
Found a couple spots that held a couple fish when things aren't 100% blue sky perfect day, and got to go fishing so I count it as a win.
Figured it would be a tough trip but just gotta launch that sucker and go sometimes.

I along with most (from the looks of it at landing) moved trips back a few weeks..

I this week was book solid with all guys who lived from Baton Rouge to Jennings area so they for sure needed to focus on real life matters and not fishing ...

Going to start back with Charters on Aug 25th

thanks for report. I fished today. Turners was stained at best and fresh. tried one spot I always catch reds at and nothing. Filled livewell full of finger mullet and headed south. fished mouth of west cove, washout, and steam engine areas. Caught one nice trout and 10-15 dinks. Had fun with several bull reds but none good enough to keep. One of them was 33 inches and I fought that thing for every bit of 30 minutes on a 4600 C3 amb. She came to boat 4 different times and like to took all the string each time and had to start the fight all over pulling it against strong tide. I took a pic but was so wore out and worried about getting it back in water I set the phone down and when I picked it back up after guzzling some Gatorade I forgot to press save and it was gone. My biggest this year and had a huge girth. Dink trout are so hungry they were trying to eat mullet almost as big as them. I only kept a few trout I cleaned here at work and fried them up for dinner. Imagine I could of caught more with live shrimp but didn't get any. Was gonna make my first trip to jetties with that live well full of mullet but was too worried storms would pop up wasting my time. Rains cooled the water off bigtime. Hopefully its all on top and will wash out soon. Gonna go again Sunday and head South before sunrise. Didn't get to good water til almost 9 and missed the incoming tide down there.
