Sorry to inform you but backwaters and ponds are becoming private over here. Louisiana saws are different from all the other coastal states.

I'm assuming you're trying to sight fish reds on the east side of the state? I would concentrate on the Biloxi marsh,Hopedale, and Delacroix. The grass in ponds changes year to year so satellite imagery may not be accurate. This is grass

If the ponds in the image look almost black, that's clear water, Meaux is correct about the above image being grass, and that it can chage year to year. One other tip. When you have Google Earth open on a computer (not google maps and not on a mobile device) look at the top of the page and you'll see an icon that looks like a little clock face, click on it, it will bring up a slider that lets you slide back and forth between the most recent image and past images. This is good for several things. One is that you can often find an image relative to the time of year you are fishing. If you find images for the same month from a few different years showing grass, there is a good chance the pond will be grassy in that given month. Two, if I am looking at interior marsh and see an area that used to be solid marsh that has opened up recently, I'm fishing there. Redfish love newly opened marsh, as there is usually still root stubble and other stuff on the bottom that holds lots of bait.

Thanks for the tip. That is the Navionics Platinum+ chart I have on my Raymarine. Great imagery for me to scout. I recently got this card and I know that Navionics did a great job getting new imagery for the LA area. I do look strange sitting in the driveway at my house looking at my GPS on the boat for hours, ha!
