I had something like this and when I called DMV I was told to be listed as home made trailer you need to show purchase receipts for the materials used and have someone sign a notorized afadavid they know you built it when the state troopers come to inspect it and if everything is not in order they take it with them when they leave to investigate it as possibly stolen. I ended up buying a rotted out junk trailer for $50 to get the papers, in fact I left it in his yard and told him to sell it for scrap metal. any way you do this it will be a hassle so buy an old rusty junk trailer and stamp those numbers onto your trailer. its not the "legal" way to do it but its the only simple and fast way to do it and not spend 6-8 months dealing with buricrats another solution is to go talk to a trailer maker and explain the whole situation and see what it will cost to have him certify it for you so it can be licensed, most wont do it but some will. Yes. Go buy a piece of junk for the papers and go that route. That is the ONLY way to get this done.

If the trailer ever had a license plate on it in Alabama, then it was registered. The vin is required to register the trailer. Registration and title are two different things. No title is required for registration in Alabama. Mississippi is the same way. I just brought a boat and trailer in from MS and the trailer didn't have a title, but the vin was listed on the MS registration papers where I got the tag in MS.

Check just inside the tongue under the coupler, I was able to find the VIN for mine there also.

I have also found numbers stamped on the front of trailer tongue on top underneath the hitch, only visible after its removed. |
