Churn Superior Canal Miami Corporation

Made a trip to the Superior Canal in the Miami Corporation east of Rockefeller. I fished it a lot when I was in high school in the late 70's and again for about 6 years up till Rita. Me, a buddy came out with 13 bass, 3 sac-a-lait, 5 catfish, 1 redfish ,and 13 bass between 1 to 3 pounds. We hooked at least 7 more bass but they got off before we got them into the boat. It's nice to see that, given time, the marsh will heal itself. It's a far cry from what we used to catch but I was happy with today's results. It's only going to get better.

Were the bass hanging in the main canals or off the small trails? It's been a couple of weeks since I have been out there and didn't know if the heat was moving them to the deeper areas. Last time we were catching them in the pads or small trails.

We use to go out there years ago when I first got a boat in high school. Had many good trips, use to tear up the bream and sacs. Haven't been since the hurricanes. Is it still 25 hp or smaller?

Yeah. Still 25hp limit. My dad and I used to fish it then got away from it after the hurricanes too. Started back last year. Love it out there.

Do you still need a permit? Can you park at the bridge? I thought the gate was locked and the landing next to the bridge was closed. I haven't fished that area since Hurricane Lilly screwed it up....

They were against the bank in the canals. Lots of vegetation so we stuck to the canals. The bass didn't start hitting until the wind began blowing around 10:30.
