Default Zihuatanejo Honeymoon Fishing report

Well i Finally have some pics to post! We took our first trip out yesterday. Our Guide Mr. Ed Kunze picked us up at our hotel and we headed south down hwy 200 from Zihuatanejo to Puerto Vicente Gurrero. Puerto Vicente is a tiny fishing village that takes you back 50 years when you drive up. The biggest house in the whole town may have 2 rooms. I have to say even through the language barrier they were some of the most hospitable people around. Once we loaded the panga (small fishing boat) we headed south. We went to the guides honey hole which is a couple os sea mounts in about 600 feet of water about a half a mile off the beach. The mounts come up to within 20ft of the surface. we started there with ranger lures and spinning gear. My wife was the first to hook up with a Bigeye jack! Shortly after I hooked up with a Bigeye. From then on it was a toss up as to which type of fish we may see next. Whitney went on to catch a Dorado which a local restaurant named Lety's cooked up for us, and a needlefish. I missed 2 big 60+ pound roosters at the boat on poppers.
Once the bite died on the mounts, we moved to a secluded un inhabited beach. we targeted river mouthes that had been silted in by sand bars from the wave action from the pacific. Throwing poppers into the back side of the surf I hooked into a 40lb rooster and whitney tossed a live bait to the second rooster following and the fight was on! after 20+ minutes we had two good sized roosters in the boat. Whitney went on to land a Jack Crevalle in the surf also and we headed back to port!
Tomorrow we head out of Zihuatanejo with a world class Captain, Aldolfo Espinoza on the Dos Hermanos for Billfish. if we have anydoubts on the blue water though, I wouldnt mind round 2 with some roosters!
If anyone is ever around Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo I highly recommend Mr. Ed Kunze. He is from California but has lived down here for 16 years. He is an IGFA Rep and also the Founder of the International Roosterfish Foundation. the whole day in Vicente only ran $400USD lunch, drinks, and transportation through the rural countryside all provided. Here is a link to his sight where you will see our report plus all the info on the area. If you want to see real Mexico and not just a Highrise resort give Zihua a try.

Thanks guys! The long fish is a Needle Fish. It reminded me of a Gar with no Scales.

Today we went ot of Zihuatanejo with Chevas on the Dos Hermanos II. It was a little slow finding the fish but once we hit 20 miles out it was game on! i caught a Blue Marlin that the Captain estimated to weigh 180kilos, I thought i had hooked a submarine! After alomost 2hours we had him in the boat. We didnt want to keep him but he had swallowed the hook and was bleeding.
Not 20 minutes after the Marlin, Whitney hooked into a nice sail fish. Not a bad day on the water if you ask me!!!! I will post pictures as soon as i can but my computer and slow internet are killing me!!

Thanks guys! It was a great trip! Really turned us on to spinning gear with the big poppers for the roosters. The water was super calm by our standards out there. Don't get me wrong though, the waves were huge but spaced far apart so you never really felt anything.
