Hairout Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge extends closure

The Department of Transportation and Development announced that the Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge in Cameron Parish will extend its closure to another 2-3 weeks.
The reason for the extension is tub boat along with a barge hit the fender system causing the pilings to fall into the water - completely destroyed.
Currently the DOTD are accepting bids on the repair work. They expect to have awarded the contract by Thursday. At which time, the repairs will begin.
Once repaired, the pontoon that is currently stationed in Harvey, Louisiana will return.
The United States Coast Guard is putting in a full investigation as to the cause of the tug boat and barge incident.

Anyone know why they have built a dirt dam just to the east of the bridge by Fred's?
