You can just crank it with a jig head or fish it like a normal tail - works both ways.

Haven't built on that blank yet. I can say that I am having great luck with the MH (Mudhole) blanks though. The SJ842 is a GREAT topwater/corky rod.

Originally was a G. Loomis blank, redesigned by Mudhole. The HM version is 1/2 ounce lighter without giving up any power. It has a unique combination of castability and power. Not good for trout but fantastic for reds.

As far as what weight rod to use for catching Red's.......

This is probably more of personal preference than what weight rod is better. Some like a Med-heavy, but I only use med-light rods. I alway keep my drag set fairly light. A 2.5 lb Trout can usually strip drag. I have caught 25 lb Reds on my med-light rods with no problems.
