Default 7m18 Lure with Mirror "spot" or defect?

I inherited this lure a long time ago, changed the hooks and put in in the "do not use" section of the tackle box. Recent trip to Fla, nothing was working at all so I pulled it out and twitched it through the clear water there to observe the action. Looks like the "spot" occasionally threw a bright flash which may have been designed in as a feature, or is it a defect? Or was it altered? I haven't found anything like it with a spot on Mirrorlure's website. Anyway, third cast caught a 19 3/4 Spec, and later I caught a second just like it. Just wondering if anyone knew about this "spot", it's starting to bug me.

MY guess is the "paint" chipped off.

That bait has caught many a trout in the surf.

Looks like chrome paint underneath. If so, it could have very well chipped, as Mr. Gerald said, but, the circle is kinda too perfect for that. Dunno, ain't never see that, either. But, I do know that paint will turn loose from a chrome finish. Hey, if it works...I wouldn't change a thing.

my dad loves those baits. I think the spot is just a defect though

Default Mystery Spot

Thanks for the comments gents, see the thing is there is no indication there was any paint there to wear off, and there is no abrasion on the surface where the paint would be. It's as smooth as the rest of it, and yes the circle looks too perfect. When it jerks, the mirrored (chrome?) surface a layer below it turns on like a strobe light (need good sun light and clear water, which I had). I'm pretty sure my dad used it in his trips to Grand Isle where he would surf fish, and in fact those are the same shoes he wore, which I had found in his closet and for some nostalgic reason also decided to wear, so it was kind of a cool retro fishing trip and the last pic is sort of my father's day present to.......well, myself, I guess.

And I thought Jupiter's spot was a mystery
