Default Beautiful Day on Biglake

Well, my main girl (VBay) decided to cut me off. She was putting out on the regular and things were good, but I guess I took that for granted. When I start expecting it, she cuts me off just to remind me who’s in charge. So I went to see my side girl, she always ready to party.

I check the weather to determine where to fish, not if to fish. I fish in anything. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. Check the wind and tide and go. Today I was supposed to take my high school football coach, but he called me last night to say that he didn’t think I he wanted to fish in what was being forecast. I mean he ran 2 a days every August in South Lousiana for 30 years but he can't fish in a little rain? Whatever. That was at 9pm so I found myself without a partner. Checked the weather underground and saw that the pressure was not really fluctuating and the tide was too good for them not to be hungry. So I figured, f’ it, if the ain’t biting I’ll go play some blackjack.

Pulled up at Calc Point to find it closed (should have read the thread). Put in at Prien to find the water flat and tide rolling. Checked a little spot my cousin showed me and boom first cast, nice slot red. Proceed to catch 3 more then something just changed, don’t know what but the bite was off. Caught all of them on that limetruse tsunami swim bait that the trout at the point love. Water was beautiful. Looked like Florida with chemical plants. Next spot was the north side of the horseshoe of by the Haymark terminal. Not much happening there but I finished out my limit of reds. Caught the last one on a Matrix Green Hornet. Then I headed down to Turners. There were birds everywhere. Liar and Gulls. They were mostly hovering not really working. Tried to line up my drift where they were most densely congregated but it didn’t matter because there were not any fish underneath them. Drifted the reef until the tide quit around noon or so. Picked up 5 or 6. Caught a few on a purple/chart corkey until a pelican went full retard on it. I seriously tried to get a corkey out of a pelican’s gullet for a full 30 minutes. I tried to run him off but he just couldn’t figure out that it was a piece of plastic. I got some video of him harassing me before he came off the top rope and dive bombed it. So somewhere in Hackberry there’s a Brown Pelican with a Paul Brown lip ring. Caught 2 or 3 on Nighttruse Votext double rigged with 1/16 oz jigheads as well.

Headed back up north and thought I would try around 210. Heard they had been catching there but had never really fished it. Started by the ship channel and worked my way around. Caught 2 or 3 on a few different colors but the bite wasn’t great. Switched to a Matrix Tiger Bait on a 5/16 oz jig head and then I started catching a fish ever 10 minutes or so. They weren’t stacked up. I set up on the corner of the island and the channel at the top of the drop off. Set my power pole and pretty much cast in a 270-degree radius. Let the bait sink and reeled in slow. Caught the last 3 after dark.

Saw 1 other boat fishing today, to fellow maniacs in 15 or 16 foot flat in turners. I was thinking I was hardcore until they showed up. Got to give them props. And I have to give another shout out to H2O Express. I am usually skeptical of any store brand merchandise but their rain suit is the truth. Glad I didn’t drop 3 bills on the one I saw at bass pro. The Academy one was half the price and kept me nice and dry all day. You can move around in it too. Had a great time by myself in miserable weather. Probably would have thrown in the towel a lot earlier if I would have had a sidekick but I am stupid like that. I cannot let the fish win.

Thanks for the spot. It's been good to me. When you coming get some of these specks. We were out the blind for 700 this morning. We are shooing geese out of the yard right now. Headed to vbay for a little blast and cast.

Tell them they are harder than a 50$ Jawbreaker. I wonder if they caught. They got there right as the tide was dying.

Man, I need to learn how to fish that place. I pick up one or two every now and then, but can't figure out how to locate the group. Wind from one direction, tide from another. Can't figure out which way I'm drifting half the time. I work the bait with and against the tide, caught both ways. But its my favorite place on the lake to fish.
