Two Day Meat Haul

For the last two days I had good customer John Balensefien and friends. Day one we hit the gulf hoping for a good day of trout fishing. At our first stop we saw 6-8 ft. ground swells slamming the beach, remnants of tropical storm Colin, so we turned around and headed north. We picked up a few trout before the crew decided they had enough of being tossed around the boat in the rough seas so we made a move to calmer waters. It was a tough decision for me as reports of a good trout bite sounded off on the VHF. Even still, my crew said to go north. So I turned off the radio and did what they asked. We got to the bull red hole and on the first drop we got a 30 incher. That was the last one and after that it was all black drum. Today we hit the gulf again and found the ground swells subsiding and it was nice and calm. Shrimp jumping out of the water greeted us and the sound of trout slurping them up had my adrenaline pumping. For a few minutes it was doubles every cast and the fish went down. They would come up every now and then and we would hammer them when they did. We put together a solid box before going check out another spot. We found some emerald green water and birds diving on shrimp, but the trout were full and breakfast was over. At 10:00 my crew decided they had enough and we took it to the house.
