Default Trip...1st week of force fetching

I'm posting this for criticism not bragging! Raymond am I right or wrong for doing this at this point? I feel he learned "fetch" at eye level, I then held it at ground level and same consistent positive response, hold, heel, release action. I've now started placing the bumper on the ground, at first he cut circles, I sat him then used an ear pinch instead of pinch collar pressure and placed the bumper directly under him, did well with that. I then started placing the bumper further away and used an ear pinch(which gives me a more bumper focused reaction compared to running circles with the pinch collar) and he did very well. In my opinion his only flaw is that he wants to grab the bumper on one end or the other, not the center.

Wrap barbed wire on both ends. After a time or two he will pick it up from the middle.

Maybe use a dowel like the one on this video to teach him to grab the center. I don't see that as a problem unless he begins dropping the bumper.

Where is the launcher video?

Ok, watched vid, I would go to white bumper or build a buck. Don't worry about him picking it up by the end right now, I will work a little magic next week and it will be money$$$. So far so good, just a couple ninjer moves you need but I C alot of dog for 7 months.

Better get some thick skin,Shawn is a training Nazi!

I thought he looked great!! My dog did the same thing with picking up the bumpers at the end. After a few retrieves with fresh birds it went away. I can't wait to start back working the dogs. My cousins dog just got his release from the vet for heart worms so we will heading to the swim by pond tomorrow evening!!

Trip is a great dog. Training with him even a rookie like me can see his potential.
