I love da 20 and over the years have owned a number of them, sxs, pump, break action. I loved to shoot trap with them and even killed a bunch of deer.

I couldn't hit a dove with one to save my life. I think the teal would laugh, circle a few times so I could reload and give 'em another laugh, then crap on my head and laugh as they flew away.

Funny that you mention this. I've got a .20 ga SXS I was thinking about breaking out this season. I will commit to it as well Simplepeddler. But you gotta post a picture up of you out hunting with it to prove it. I won't break out the .12 until duck season.

I do it every year that I dove hunt and with a 20gauge wingmaster pump. Last year for the first hour it was on and I made some great shots. I think it only took 11 shots for first 8 birds. But after that the field was crowded with hunters and it got harder and harder to knock them down and finish out a limit.

I have a new Beretta 12 gauge that I was gonna try this year on opening day but it looks like I will be offshore. I haven't been offshore in almost 3 years but came out to replace someone having a family emergency... sucks but hopefully will be a few left for next weekend.

I started off shooting a 20 ga. crack barrel at doves. I got to where I held an extra shell in the left hand. I took the first shot as soon as the birds got into range, reloaded and got a second shot before they got out (?) of range.

Shot many a box of shell with that shotgun.

Got a 12 ga. auto a couple years later for Christmas. Dad took me on a guided duck hunt a few days later. When it started to get light the sky was empty.... no ducks flying. After a little while, I saw something small swimming next to the decoys. I asked the guide what it was. About that time it took of flying and the guide said shoot...shoot. So I did and kill my first ever teal.

I got a Remington 1100 in .410 - think I will shoot that on my Texas dove hunt on Sept 19th, and wouldn't mind it for teal as well if I can find some shells. Brings back alot of great memories from my first hunts with my dad and grandpaw. Thanks for this awesome topic!

For the past 5 years I've shot a 20 g. Montefeltro Bennelli on doves and teal, even opening day of big duck season. I do find that the 1 oz. loads for doves are far superior to the 7/8 oz for doves in 20. If you look at the field loads for 12g. the load is 1oz for the cheap shells you find at big box stores! Same as shooting a 20 g. same velocity as the 12 g load. Everyone in our group of dove hunters use 20s, shooting RIO field loads of 1oz, 8s.

I have shot a benelli m2 20 gauge for a few years. For a couple of seasons I shot it from teal to the end of big duck. Quite honestly its not a challenge. I hunt the marsh and typically don't shoot unless there close. I have more fun with the 20gauge.

If I dove hunt I'll probably shoot the old Beretta 20 gauge my dad got when he was a kid. Barrels been cut after my uncle shot it when it was full of mud and the stocks were cut and refinished when I was a youngun and I still shoot it as well as I shoot my 12 ga.
