Sure....
if you get your internet through Cox cable or whoever you have over there. I use Cox cable for my internet and then I use Viatalk(similar to Vonage) which operates over the internet as VOIP service, or voice over internet protocol. I pay about $200 per year or 18 months sometimes on specials for this phone service which gives me unlimited long-distance calling anywhere in the country and really good rates for international calls as well. You get all of the extras as well like call waiting, caller id, two lines, etc. for free.

If you are going to get broadband internet and want a landline, check out OOMA.com for VOIP service. Buy the equipment upfront (you can get it for $100 and change if you look around), and then pay nothing ever again. I've been using them for 2 years and they are awesome. Lots of cool features without the monthly cost of Vonage or other VOIP service.

Not sure but I bundled tv, phone and Internet in Houston with uverse and we have been happy with it. The uverse Internet speeds are very, very good. For Internet Iwould highly recommend uverse. Check their website today and you can order and schedule them to come out all online. I never had to speak to anyone, I have a new home and everything in my house is cat 5 which provides a great picture for tv. For hd clarity I find direct tv to be the best, I have direct at my camp.

Option.....keep the basic land line but cancel the land line long distance (use the cell), cancel the call waiting (if can not get you on the land line, people who have the # can call you on the cell phone), cancel the caller ID. It sux's if your cell phone is broken, wife takes it, etc and you are at home and have no phone to use. Also, keep in mind, if you have a home fax machine connected to you land line. |

Only people called our land line was mother in law and people selling stuff.
Got rid of it about 5 years ago. Don't miss it at all. Got internet thru cable. Suddenlink cable has alarm system that has a cell signal to call out on. Same price as other alarm systems. |

I live in a "dark" part of Louisiana. We don't have alot of the stuff you guys are talkin' about. Hell, after Katrina, our governor, Kathleen Blanco, publicly stated that she did not realize Bogalusa was in Louisiana. |

land lines are ancient history. if you need another number, google voice...look it up....some people are locked to land lines---those that can't get cable only dsl....then you have to get a dedicated number. i think. at my house, the land line is louid as hell. yet when it rings nobody gets up to get it, or it will end on its own. telemarketers and cable were the deathe of land-lines/dsl/56k

AT&T offers dsl without home phone service. That's what we have and use cell phones. The only downside is dsl where I live isn't fast, but it's the only option unless I get satellite internet.
