Default just curious

Curious as to what everybody's take is on baitcast VS. Spinning reels. I personally have never been a big fan of spinning reels. What's the pros and cons of both from your personal experience?

Do you mean a spinning reel? Spincast is like a Zebco.

I like fishing a spinning reel on an ultra light and bait cast for everything.. I don't know if I'm just weird or what but I fish left handed with a spinning reel and right handed with a bait cast..

The few times that I have used them I did the same.

Thats the way I use them.

To me spinning reels are far better for lighter baits. you can launch a little nothing bait or just a live minnow on a cail hook (dont know how to spell it) with no problem...

This is pretty much what I've always heard. Who knows I might buy one. Lol. But even with a 1/16oz jighead I have no prob getting it out there with a curado.

I love bait casters. That being said let's have a cast off with my Stradic ci 4 with 10# super slick and a 7'6" rod. It's hard to put such a smooth machine down. I use bait casters for top waters mostly. Spinning reels and much more versatile but you gotta have both.

If ever sight-casting for reds and going against the wind, spinning works for me. If ever fishing with a weighted cork, spinning is the way to go. In situations with light baits against the wind and distance is at a premium (accuracy a non-factor) spinning is the way to go.

Pretty much all other application, I don't like spinning.

spinning reels are great for windy days. I think if you are fishing with a cork they are a must have. I've even thrown topwater with em before. Go to florida and you will almost never see guide or tourney pro on the redfish circuit from there using a bait caster.

I am more accurate with a BC but also really accurate with a SR. I think you have way better control over a fish with a BC

I like having a spinning reel or two on the boat for when I bring someone fishing who does not cast a bait caster very good. Trying to make a guy fish with a bait caster for the first time makes for an aggervating day for them and me.

I learned this lesson after bringing my manager fishing and assuming that he had experience with a bait caster. He didn't and I spent much of the day instructing him and working on back lashes. Went but two spinning reels that night.

Only spinning reels I own are for my wife and daughter. Only reason I would throw one was if I was throwing a cork or fishing for brim/sacs. And I don't throw corks or freshwater fish much. Used to be all I fished with when I was a kid. But once I picked up a baitcaster I have never used one again for saltwater fishing. I think the more compact/comfortable design of baitcaster and baitcaster rods makes them the better choice.

SR are designed like that for RH users, it's very efficient. Cast and hold with the right, flip bail and reel with left - you'll notice with the string on top of the revolution the bail is at the closest and easiest point to open with your left hand then fling with the right. You never have to switch hands - switch the handle on the reel to the right side and you are hand swapping and doing the ol reach around to open the bail.

Seeing everyone fishing with them in FL is kinda why I started thinking about it. Everybody has good points. But I also like the compact and accuracy of a BC like Tator said. I have one for my wife but its a cheapo and she throws a BC better anyway. So it never gets used. But I was just tossing the idea around about buying one. But the Salty Cajuns have spoken and made up my mind. I'll stick with my BC reels. I just very rarely fish a cork and don't have a problem casting into the wind with a BC.
