Default Our First Saltwater Trip

Drove down yesterday morning to get our first taste of saltwater fishing. Let me tell you that I couldn't have hoped for a better day. We spent the day surf fishing a few miles east of Holly Beach. It was a wonderful day spent with family and friends. The fishing was great too. Our group of 7 ended up with 6 reds in the 37 to 42 inch range and a few Gafftops to go along with them. Thanks for all of the info on here that sure was very usefull to a newbie. J

I can't decide if that's an "oh lord" or a "heaven help us" look on your face.... It isn't important though because it looks like everyone had a blast.

Those big reds make for a blast of a fight!

Actually I was behind the camera for this pic. L to R is my wife, our son and daughter, daughters boyfriend and his parents. I'll get up a pic of my ole redneck self. It was an awesome day. My sole goal was to give my wife and kiddos the chance to feel a big fish on the line. I was blessed with exactly what I was hoping for

Matt, Ace and Sparky y'all nailed it. Everyone had a wonderful time and that was the goal. It was our first time and was my idea. I was really worried it was gona be no fish and everyone baking in the sun. It couldn't have been more the opposite. The breeze off of the gulf was wonderful and the fishing was great "at least for a bunch of newbies". We are planning on going back over labor day weekend if schedules and weather permits. John

You keep going down and one day that green water will be pushed in. Then it's gonna be fish.

Thanks for the tip. We plan on going down a bunch more. Don't know why we waited this long.

That looks like fun. I might take my kids this weekend. What bait did you use for the reds?

From another newbie, excellent work! This whole saltwater thing is addictive! Got family coming in all the way from Missouri to try it out.

Slidellkid if you didn't get my messages(still tryin to figure this format out) we used mullet we bought at Meaux's and were fishing on that beach stretch just a few miles east of holly beach. About halfway down the beach I would say. Never done it before so we just picked a spot. We'll be back next Saturday if weather permits.
