Default Straight Tail VS. Paddle Tail ...

Straight Tail VS. Paddle Tail ...

Is there a certain time of the year or situation that one out produces the other ?

Thanks in advance !

I use both and catch on both. If I could only pick one, I would pick the paddle tail for the vibration. That having been said, there are lots of very popular straight tails out there.

Paddle for slower presentation or dirty water. My dad doesn't really work plastics so paddle tail does the work for him.

Straight for reaction strikes. I prefer to work a lil john, but if I have Matrix Shad paddle tail I wouldn't hesitate to throw it.

For the most part IMO, which ever you are better at working and have more confidence in.

Both type baits work well...... depending on what the fish want that day.

A while back we had a discussion on "older" style baits, and I took this picture of some old straight tail baits..... Slimy Slugs made by Mr. Twister. I took them on my next fishing trip and caught a couple of Specks with them.

Paddle tail has a more bait fish type motion straight tail is more of a shrimp imitator. I mostly fish straight tails deep also with a hard twitch. Better when shrimp are in lake. Fall and summer for. Straight tail. Just my finding not a science matter of fact answer.
