As of now we are 47 birds short of our average. I don't think we will get there by the end of the year but you never know. The past 2 two weeks have dropped down dramactically. It sure was fun the first 3 weeks!!

We had a great 1st split but the past 2 weeks have been terrible. Never seen it this bad in our area of pecan is. I think this shows that Mr Reynolds was right about the hunting in the marsh being better early in the year.

Maybe it'll get back to the original dates next season

First split in the marsh was fantastic as always. Second split has really fell off in the marsh. Still killing solid numbers in rice. Speck season has been special.

Yep, I would like to see more days in the first split and not as many in the second. I know every year is different but the 1st split is usually better in the marsh so why not have more days in the 1st split in the coastal zone???

Couldn't have said it better. I know lots of folks say , " but Jan is when it gets real cold and that's when the ducks come" ...bull honky ,were loaded in nov , never fails.
Dogface did you happen to put your input in about setting season dates when it was up in the air? Sept or August whenever that was .

Yes I did. I asked for an additional week in the first split but apparently most folks wanted the season to run later in Jan. I hope everyone will contact Mr. Larry Reynolds and ask for a earlier opener with a additional week in the first split.

I hear ya but statistics show that on the average we kill more ducks in the marsh during the first split and that's why I would like to see an additional week. Of course there are exceptions to every rule but I have been hunting over 50 years and the marsh is usually better the first split. I also have a timber lease and its better late in the year but we are talking about the coastal zone with regards to the first split being better.

Default 1st Split 2nd Split Banana Split

We have birds in S la from late Oct until March.

IMO----Unless your on your A game, late in the second split your success will diminish compared to the 1st split because the birds have been shot and called at for 45+ days.

I'm happy with the season dates.
