Default Cutting down a shotgun barrel.
Anyone had one cut down and threaded for choke tubes? My dad has a 20ga that I was using the other day and I have never been able to really hit anything with it. The more I looked at it I started to notice that the bead was slightly off center. Just enough to really throw you off when shooting at flying targets. Looking for a cost estimate on getting it cut down to fit removable choke tubes. Anyone know about how much I should expect to pay??

I'm sure several hundred. So depending on the gun n sentimental value it may be better to put it into retirement and buy a new one

Dang, that much? If that is the case I may cut it down myself and re-bead it. Wouldnt be the first time.

You don't need a bead on a shotgun. Just take the bead off. Ain't had a bead on my gun for years. Just point and shoot both eyes open.

Its kinda awkward to adjust to. I'd hate to change the way I shoulder a gun to find the bead and affect the way I shoulder my other shotguns.

Whats the legal size barrel for a sawed off shot gun? I heard 18 1/2". Anyone know?

I have an old double barrel 12ga I wanted to shorten and keep in my truck.

18"

anything below requires a permit from the atf and also your gun has to have your name address and other crap on it.

From what I've read you do not want to be caught with one that is shorter than 18"

The cops are the experts on the current criminal trends. If they have determined that a “high capacity” semiautomatic pistol and a .223 semiautomatic rifle with 30-round magazines are the best firearms for them to use to protect people like me and my family, they are obviously the best things for us to use to protect ourselves and our families .

Thats what I heard too. A buddy said most cops keep a rod in their car that they drop down the barrel, and if that rod shows then you are screwed.

So the gun has to be engraved with your name or somethin? Or just a tag? Or is that just if under 18"?

Cheaper to buy a new barrel with threads than to pay for gunsmith. It has to be fairly thick barrel to thread for chokes anyway.
