Question about birds
1. How far out do you think the fish are and do the birds hit the center of the school? 2. Sometimes I see birds sitting on the water. Are there fish there or were there? Any use trying to fish the area. |

Don't try to get to the center of the birds.
Stay as far away with the boat as possible and still be able to throw into the birds. When the birds stop, that don't mean the fish stop. That means there are no more shrimp being pushed to the top. Keep fishing till you don't get any more fish. |

NOPE....Because if Im on a group and a boat comes in....I wait until they trolled all the way up and almost get where the fish are.
then I crank up and blow them out Key to that is.....Find your own!!! But I haven't fished a group of birds in a few months......catching to many on reefs and channel

I don't go to any flock that someone is already on. That's why the only time I usually mess with birds nowadays is in the afternoons when no one else is out there. 1. Try and get within casting distance of the birds. Get upwind and drift till you get 75 yards or so from them and just start fishing till u drift to them. Doesn't take much to spook them off. But the fish will be on the outsides too. I have never caught trout under birds picking anything other than shrimp. 2. When the birds are sitting, that just means that the shrimp went down, but the birds know they are there and are just camping out waiting for the trout to push the shrimp back up to the surface. |

If you're new just use the "smash & grab" approach. Go ahead and come in hot, cast right into the center. (i mean right where their dangling feet are!)

I don't care if someone comes in on birds I am fishing, if it is a big flock and they are smart enough to not screw it up for me.
If they do screw it up, payback is a beotch, all day long. |

you need to come get lessons in v/b. Them boys will come flying in as fast as their lil joe boat will carry them, kill the motor, hop to the front of the boat, while grabbing their rod in one hand and the troll motor in the other, and be casting before their boat gets off plane.

So true. I callem weekend warriors. They aren't capable of finding there own so they come in hot only to spook the fish and the birds. Go figure! I had two boats do the same thing offshore last week. I asked them politely to "Go back to the point where they belong"!

1. Use heavy lead(3/8oz) and light line(10#) with a (20#) shock leader to make long cast.
2.Stay on the edges you can follow the school for miles and pick'em off if you stay outta them. 3.Birds quit pickin...WATCH THE WATER IT'S NOT OVER!! Look for anything that looks nervous...watch for shrimp skipping. 4. Don't go try to potlick another mans set...chances are the fish are motor shy in the first place(they have been chased all day). Chances are if you see 1 set there WILL be more down the road!! A lil courtesy goes a long way!! |

When the birds are moving in Turners, drop anchor and start fishing. They will come to you.
The more you chase them, the more nervous the fish get. |
