Smile Cypress Point Duck and Deer - 1/17 and 1/18

I got the privilege to hunt in Clayton, LA on Saturday and Sunday at Cypress Point Hunting Club. The land, the camp, the management system, and the people that I met and saw this weekend were all first class. I had never been to a deer lease with such strict management rules:

All bucks must be a main-frame 8pt or bigger and must also have a
gross score of 120 B&C or meet two of the following three criteria:
1. 4" bases or bigger
2. 20" main beam or bigger
3. 16" inside spread

However, by looking at the trophy racks mounted inside the camp it is is obvious that the management system is paying off.

Saturday morning we duck hunted a slew and shot 4 grey ducks. We should have shot many more but our shooting was less than great. It was a fun hunt and we got to throw some steel at them.

Saturday afternoon my buddy and I each got in seperate deer stands around 3:30. I saw a huge cow horn spike that looked to be 3-4 years old and 175 lbs. (After explaining this deer to the members they all agreed this would be a cull buck in the future). I also saw a doe right at dusk but didn't take the shot because I couldn't determine her age or size and was not interested in risking the $500 fine for shooting a doe that weighed less than 100lbs.

Right at dusk I hear a shot and my buddy texts me saying he thinks he just shot his first deer. After blood trailing her for about 50 yards he finds his prize. Once the guys at the camp learned that it is his first deer he got bloodied up VERY good but he was so excited that he took it like a man eithout resisting.

We duck hunted again Sunday morning and although the birds didn't fly as well as Saturday we shot better and ended up with 2 greys and 2 wood ducks.

That property is truely a piece of paradise and I am very grateful that I was able to spend a couple of days out there.

I figured that someone on here is a member there.
You are a very fortunate to be part of such a first class Hunting club.
