Default Lake Martin Sac o laits

Hit up lake martin yesterday for about 4 hours. Started out bass fishing, nothing but small ones biting. Brought the jig pole decided to see if the papermotts would bite. Fished the north end and did pretty good. Pattern was 2 foot of water anywhere the lillys were stacked up. Punched the lillys with a clear tube jig tipped with grass skrimps. They would not hit the jig without the grass shrimp. Ended up with a decent mess, lost several ripping them through the lillys. Caught nothing but males, won't be long before the spawn is in full swing.

Good catch. What makes you say they were males?

No eggs and they were very black....they turn darker when the spawn is on. Pic was after they were on ice for several hours, they were almost solid black.

Nice. Their top fins and bottoms side turn black during the spawn. And there are also black crappie. I was just wondering cuz the other day we had a ton that looked like what you have and they were full of eggs. Just hard for me to tell. They all eat the same though!

Yeah I remember going as a kid and the grass and lillys were so bad u could not launch a boat. Lillys move around with the wind,I like fishing the north end. They catch em in the duck blinds too but I hate fishing a crowd.

There is no crowd at the duck blinds. Last time I went they only had 6 boats around one blind. I could have easily squeezed in ....
