I have one and I think there is a big difference. I didnt pay full price for it though. I traded an extended choke to a guy for it. Go to the refuge forums classifieds. There is always some good calls for sale on there.
I also have an acrylic speck call I got off there for $75 that sounds really good

As for as duck calls go i have tried many, but imho nothing beats a haydels dr85. As far of speck calls i've tried haydels, olt, chein calle, redbone and my next will be a riceland from james myers. Which i'm hoping to get next week. Had a redbone and loved it, but i lost the guts for it and i just can't see spending another $200 for another one. I've heard great things about riceland and that's what i'm going with next.

I think the acrylic sounds more crisp and has less vibration. I just started blowing some higher end calls over the past few years and I really like them. I blow a cadence single reed and buck gardner short barrel double reed acrylic duck but got really good deals on both. I did pay for the redbone and kind of regret it since blowing a Riceland. Riceland may have the easiest blowing best sounding speck call out right now IMO.

I blew a DR85 for 20 years prior. They are hard to beat for the price and I would recommend that call to anyone just starting.

How much do the Riceland calls run? I've been thinking about ordering a redbone but would love to hear more about these.

I bought a homeade wooden mallard call from a guy at outdoor expo last year for $15. Best call I have blown. All about personal preference. Before that all I blew was a DR 85.

no doubt!!!! I can't wait to be waiting for shooting time, hearing the marsh come alive, swatting mosqitos, hear the fist shot in the distance then swoosh the first bunch passes over about taking your head off hit the call they bank wings cupped feet down. Take em!!!! Gun fire goes off then see the carnage of the ones drinking pond water.

I wouldn't spend more than 20 bucks on a duck call. A dr85 sounds great. A good location is worth more than any duck call though. I think a custom built and tuned speck call helps out a lot though

I have been using the DR-85 for years as well.

Just bought a used Goey and man it does seem to sound great.
I've heard good things about Cadence and Mayday.
FF who is your buddy?
Shaw those are sweet as well.........I like the idea of a Louisiana call maker

i'm with cmcnabb on this. i'd be willing to bet not many people in south louisiana are killing many mallards. dr85 sounds pretty damn near just like a mallard. knowing when to call is most important. everyone buys rich n tone and all the other high end calls thinking they are gonna kill more ducks. i did get an acrylic riceland from james and it sounds awesome, but can't be blown very hard or loud

Can't disagree with that noodle.......and I've killed a bird or two in the last 27 years.

I really like the acrylic Wench! nice easy call to blow.
I also believe that by the time the birds get here, they have heard every call known to man, so a soft chuckle is about all you need
