I know several folks from lower Cameron Parish who got screwed by them after Rita. Glad to learn from others mistakes. I'd stay away from them if I were you. |

That is what I was going to tell ask you. Make sure you plan on having somewhere to store it with a roof over it. If not the rubber roof will not last near as long. I keep mine covered as much as possible but it still has mildew stains and weathering just from staying out for a yr or so. My inlaws pay 1000-1200 a yr rent for a storage building to park theirs in. And another regret with mine is i didn't get enough storage. And get the biggest A/C they will sell you or put a 2nd one in it before you leave the dealer. We are miserable camping in July and August.

Well, you won't like hearing this..............I just sold mine and it was the best day of my life as a camper owner. I will not say I will "never" have another one, but it will be a long time!!!! What a pain in the rear end. I served it's purpose, but in the end, you will never get your money out of a camper.
I originally purchased a 1998 Prowler in 2004 from a guy I knew and this thing was heavy, and had a washer/dryer in it. Got it for a good deal, but a year later it was damaged in a storm. I made a courtesy trade with that one and the insurance money to Gauthier's in Lafayette. Our next one was a 2006 Durango 5th wheel by KZ. It had the 4 bunks in the back so the kids could just climb up in their sleeping bags and we didn't have to mess with sheets, and sofas, and so on. It was nice, but now that I am out of it, I would have been better off going with a used one. Also, now that we are in a "house" as a camp and not a camper, it is amazing how much more relaxing the weekends are. No more having to unclog the poop line, no more frozen water hose at 32degrees, no more power issues when the wife turns on the blow dryer..........you get the picture. Hopefully, I will not have the need for another one! |

One of the biggest mistakes a first time camper buyer commits is to look for a camper that is so big the experience turns into a pain in the azz. For non full time campers it is better to start out with a smaller size camper. Part time camping is not ment to compete with your permanent home. With a camper you have to think down sizing and leaving some non nessesary things home.

I've been a scout since I was in first grade. Still do scout functions. I can survive in the woods indefitly with very little. BUT!!!! That's not how my wife likes to roll. She's tired if tenting it........trust me, I'm all for roughing it, but if I'm getting a camper, I'm going all out.....looked at a puma today. Bare bones camper. Price was right, but I want more luxury than that. I'm being patient for now......selling one of the trucks should come first anyway......if anyone needs a truck, I'm motivated to sell!!
