Default First time going offshore - Tips/advice?

Just got word today that someone backed out on some buddies on a tuna trip on the 20th. So I'm filling his spot. Not sure the charter name yet but will find out. Going out of Venice. And they have beer. That's all I know.

Thoughts?

Have different ways to counter sea sickness even if you haven't had it before.

Take a nap on the ride out.

Pack food that won't make you hurl.

Most captains don't like spray sunscreen on their boats.

Make sure you turn your phone on airplane mode, it dies quickly trying to constantly find signal.

I like to bring my own plugs and hard baits. Good charters have them but it helps if you have your own.

Pretty much any captain is good down there, but some are better than others. they have been doing well when the weather lets em get out. March/April are some good months to fish, but the wind is a biotch

Seriously, no matter what anyone else in your group says or does.

DO NOT GET DRUNK THE NIGHT BEFORE OR DURING THE TRIP UNTIL THE RIDE IN!

You are paying too much money to get sick at the first stop!

Speaking of money, with the price of fuel now wouldn't be a bad time to take a trip. Cut down on fuel costs by around $200-250.

Don't go to Bourbon Street the night before and lose your wallet in a titty bar. I heard this was bad to do.

Default Sea-Sick

I have only been sea sick twice and it was very much the result of the previous nights activities. You don't wanna be that guy.

Bring plenty of food, it helps me to eat all through the day.

If you have a prescription for Glaucoma bring it, I heard it works wonders.

Take a bonine the night before and another one the morning of the trip 45 min or an hour before leaving. Stay away from dramamine, it was make you drowsy. Drink plenty of water and you'll be good to go.

do what you normally do and don't think about it. Dramamine makes you tired. Don't get sloppy the night before. Ginger Ale is good. If captain's boat is a Triton then you don't have to worry

If you see the elusive Tripletail, take plenty of pics. It could be the last time you'll see one in your life before they go extinct.

Thanks guys! Looking for some bonine now. My buddy says he has some sort of prescription patches he uses that he'll let me have. I'll be taking a few go pros with me so I shouldn't have to use my phone too much. Think the captain would mind if I put a sticky mount on his rig somewhere? They've never left marks on my ranger before. It's with Paradise Outfitters also. Heard nothing but good things about them.

I've heard the same. I doubt they're cool with my glaucoma meds though lol
