Headknocker Eventful Trip

Headed to Freshwater Bayou Sat, stopped at Gulf Way for bait, ice, etc. I was in my Tahoe folloeing my buddies with a 25 cat in tow. I reach them about 1 mile past the small draw bridge....they had hit the bridge too fast and shreaded the rear axel of the trailer :-(....after bathing in off and ripping off teh back left tire we linped 2 more miles to the launch. we finally got in the water about 6:30, caught some live bait and headed offshore. Weather called for 1-2...it was 3-4+ snapped a gunnel rail, lost the horn, speaker, and to top it all off the starbord bilge went out.....manual bilge all day......we ended up going about 60miles out and salvaged the day with a limit of reds snapper, some big groves, a couple of Chicken Dolphin, and a 50lb Cobia......got back to the dock about 5pm two of our crew went back into town to air up the three remaining tires on the boat while three of us stayed back and cleaned the boat and teh fish....then once the boat was on the trailer I put the icing on the cake by locking my keys in my truck....but with a lil cajun inginuity we managed to unlock it with a large knice and a stick!!!
ended up back at my house for 11:30pm....slept all day Sunday

Sorry we messed up your fish cleaning party when we came in! Looked like you guys had a system going there, but had to stop to move the boat! Dang, I hate that launch but pulling a 32' Contender w/ a 1/2 ton truck does not work for me going much further. Besides, with the price of fuel, the shorter the boat - the better!

We ended up going 0-3 on Ling and had 2 hookups.

Snapped gunwale rail?? Wow! How'd that happen? Did you have to run 60 miles? Or just feeling more adventurous? Gonna try this weekend, but don't wanna run that far

thinking about beginning to use FWC launch again. Curious where you caught the live bait. I haven't been there in a few years, but I don't remember seeing any weirs where bait could be caught. Also curious about your location, one of the pics seems to show something stationary (land?) in the background.

Yeah that was crazy. The other time I launched there we got stuck on a mud flat for 3 hours in 100 degree heat with no wind. From now on I will go out of ICY or grand chenier.

No weirs....you can catch mullet by the launch. Besides that you can try to catch some hardtails on sibiki rigs offshore. I suggest you buy some frozen bait at gulfway in kaplan just in case.

I am so leaning that way evertime I go. I say never again, but that big ole' boat is a MOFO to trailer!

I really enjoyed the trip we ran in my boat from Rollover! Very easy! Just not sure we can get that Contender down that ramp there!
