Default Feeder Times

Question about feeders. What time do you set them to go off and for how long? Mine go off at 7:30 am and at 3:45 pm for 8 secs. I don't want them going off too early in the morning or late in the afternoon. What is everyone's thoughts on times and durations. I hunt in central LA.

Had mine about sunrise/shooting time and an hour before sunset.

time depends on how much you want to put out. I think mine were set for 5 seconds. They pretty much ate it all, at night.

I have never used a feeder......only hunt public land.

But.......from what I have read, Why would you put out feed during the day that is not eaten during to day. IMO, if you still have feed on the ground at dark, you put out too much feed that day.

If you feed the Deer at night.....you won't see them during the day.

Most of the time feeders are more for a treat and over time deer will learn to respond to the sound of it going off. I know a lot of guys say feeders are cheating and I agree to a point but when you have a lease with other hunters near its very hard to kill if you don't level the playing field.... I tried hunting two yrs without feeders on a lease and never saw a deer but I also enjoy hunting public land when I have time to scout and be in the woods longer.

I tried feeding just in the morning, but they would not come in to eat until night time.

I have two cameras I move around at my stands and its very surprising when deer do show up, I have had deer come in the middle of the day several times when you wouldn't think they would be feeding and also see a lot of times where they show up about 30min after its to dark to see them

I would like to ask this question again as they now have more members then back in 2013. What time do you feed and for how long? We still feed for 8-10 seconds twice a day, 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. We also have nice food plots planted with oats and wheat, so they do have other food besides corn.

I've read a few articles and some say to feed only in the morning so they don't feed at night? What are your thoughts?

Josh

In Texas where there are lots of deer, the feeders are set to 8:00am and 4:00pm and never changed. That way you are typically in the stand when the feeder goes off and they never have to adjust for daylight savings time. But.... the TX deer come to the sound of the feeder, so do the hogs and the birds etc. Years of conditioning...

You should set those feeders and then hunt the trails in the woods where those bucks are hanging out while waiting for you to go back to the camp He, He You know where to go!

Do something different than everyone else. Feed at night, confuses the deer

We also hunt central LA. Our feeders are set to go off at 7:30am and 3:00pm. Set to feed 5 seconds.

I fed only AM about 30 minutes after sunrise. Only & only if all corn start disappearing before evening did I feed in afternoon. But, never had the big bucks come to auto feeders during daylight. So went back to homemade 6" PVC gravity feeders, strapped high enough hogs couldn't reach, then big bucks would come in during light.

You will rarely see a mature deer in Louisiana come to a corn feeder during the day. If you are just meat hunting then feed morning and afternoon.
