Use a smith diamond file. Use the rough side then finish with the fine side

I use a chef's choice 3 stage on all my knives. these are about $100 depending on the model, but worth every penny. It sounds like the bevel on the edge is gone and needs to be resurfaced then you can hone the bevel sharp

Good luck with that knife... I still have an old Buck knife in my drawer and never could keep an edge on that thing either...

I love when kids get knifes handed down!!! I use a Lansky on all my skinning knifes. It takes a long time to get the angles on hard steel knife (Buck), but once the angle is there, they resharpen quickly. Old Buck knifes are the best, but people that have opposing angles on the edge of the blade hate them. Sounds like your knife has been passed on the stone a few times and it does not have a matching angle to each side. I have spent countless hours w/ the Lansky in my lap wathcing TV before a knife "got right". Good Luck!

This is as easy and good as it gets. If you dont know what you are doong woth a stone you can f up a good knife faster than you cam sharpen one.

work sharp will be the last knife sharpener you will ever buy. really fast and puts a razor edge. took it to the camp sharpened every knife including some old iron ones. when one of your fine belts wear down dont throw it away. take some number 5 polishing compound and hit that a couple times on your blade.

I have a lansky that is great for puttin the edge back on a blade but I also have the diamond file and a leather block and I've done it enough where I can sharpen it good enough to split a frog hair

Its sharpening for dummies at its finest, and it works flawlessly!

And if you do like me and cut one of your belts and want some others, look here for some better prices. If you order from work sharp, you have to order the variety pack, as where you can order just what you want.

To the one with the work sharp I have a question.....

I read some stuff that say the tips tend get rounded and not as sharp as the rest of the knife, do you guys find this to be true?

Only thing I find is when I first started using it I wouldnt sharpen the end cause I was going to fast. Once you do a few u will figure it out. It hasn't made my knifes round.
