Cheers 6-8 Grande Isle Snapper Run

Left Lafayette at 2:30 a.m. headed to the island.
Put the 19' Mako boat in the water at Bridgeside at 6:30 and headed South East.

We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with 1' - 2' rollers. NOAA was right on the money.

After 1 hour and 22 minutes of running at 22 mph (~30 miles) we stopped at the first spot.
First drop brougt up with a cubara and second drop brought up a 13 lb lemon fish.

This spot produced several hardtails (which ended up being cut bait), 3 Red snapper, 1 cubara, 1 vermillion, and 1 lemon fish. Fun catching a variety of fish. However, we had hopes for some larger snapper in the fishbox.

Headed further Southeast at 10:30. Traveled another 7 miles to next set of rigs to see that they were full of boats. Next set was another 5-6 miles so we headed that way. Was unable to tie up to rig so we made a few drifts which resulted in 1 red snapper.

Headed back north around noon and stopped at rigs that were full on the way out. Got on some red snapper with a lot better size to them. Finished off our limit by 12:30 with the last one weighing in at 12.8 lbs. Realized the clouds were starting to get dark so headed north.
Had to outrun a couple of nasty looking storms to get to the truck without getting wet.

First time to catch and clean a lemon fish. Was very surprised with how firm and white the meat is. It is very similar to Wahoo meat.
Have a couple of filets of red snapper on the half shell on the pit now. REady to eat and get some rest.

Not when we came in.
We were literally right in front of a pretty big storm wide open trying to beat it to the marina.
If there were any boats on the beach they had probably already taken it to the house.
