Default Low oil/overheat alarm

A few weeks ago I took my boat out and a couple hours into the day my alarm went off and assumed it was because the oil was getting low. I picked up my boat and topped of the oil but the buzzer hasn't shut off. Can the alarm go off because of a loose connection or is the alarm for other things as well? This is my first boat so im very new to troubleshooting problems with it.

2003 90hp yamaha....sorry for the lack of info.

The alarm is coming from my boat itself not the motor so im wondering if it could be something other than my motor.

I have the same motor and had the same issue, which is common with this model. The water jacket passages are very small on this motor causing scale build up. But I would start with the thermstat and pressure control valve first since it is easier and cheaper to do.

Oh yeah the alarm will come from the throttle shifter not the motor, so it is a problem with the motor

was it doing this just while running ? your thermostat could be clogged or stuck a good way to tell is it will be pissing real hot evan to touch or your oil sending unit switch could also be stuck I seen both happen on these models

Really appreciate the info, thanks. No, it does it when I turn the key on before cranking also.

I had the same motor just older model. Mine would sound the alarm at higher rpms and alarm would go off after idling for a few seconds. It was my battery, must have had a short in it, so I suggest checking wiring and battery to make sure nothing is shorting out.

Also check the float in the oil tank, sometimes they can stick

Find the 2 wires from the oil tank level sending unit, unplug one of them and turn the key on. If the alarm does not come on, it's the oil level alarm. If its a cooling problem, the overheat alarm will come on when the motor is hot, not just parked in the driveway.

Update: I found the alarm is mounted behind my ignition switch and it seemed so have stopped but when I moved the wires around behind the ignition switch I could hear the alarm trying to sound. Also I have my radio hooked up to my battery bypassing my switch and I noticed that when I have my radio on it plays fine but when I turn the switch on and move the wires behind the switch my radio will shut off momentarily and turn back on as if a loose connection.

Also, I put my boat down this morning and notice that water was barely coming out (oozing) the motor, so now I have this to troubleshoot. Thinking it may be a bad water pump, I appreciate any advice and really like this site because of the things I have learned from all the good people here.

glad to see you found it but i too have motor and was ignorant to fact that you have to change the impaler on the the water pump after two years well ma alarm kept going off for over heat but was still pissing good, but when i took it apart the impaler imploded and got rubber all in the cooling system, took me about 3 weeks of working on it ever afternoon to get all the rubber!!!! so pay aattention to that if youve never changed it do so now and save money and time!!!!

Default pee hole

i have a 2007 , 70, and my alarm was going off after running above half throttle a few minutes . water was flowing through pee hole strong . all that tells you is the pump is working . the water cooling the engine comes out the exaust . my motor was clogged with scale and gunk between head and outer head cover . half clogged between block and cylinder walls . the water flow between head and cover only goes through like a 5/16" hole in the gasket . probly why this gets clogged up , not enough water flow to keep it flushed . if your buzzer goes off check for water coming out exaust , dont just count on the pee hole.
