Default Shout out to The Tackle Box 2

Made a list of the reel and rods I currently have and while talking with OB I learned two things one I need to sell some of the items I have acquired and the second is I needed a rod with a different action and while I was at it go ahead and get the reel. As always OB was there with good info and I left with a Lews reel on a Crucial Rod and of corse here is a little snap shot.

Nice setup. I was at a guy's house this past weekend for Mardi Gras parades and he had a Quantum Smoke reel on his dining table. Of course, I picked it up and started messing with it. Very sweet looking reel and was very smooth. Extremely light. Don't know if it would hold up to saltwater though. It looks similar to that Lews.

IMO, the Smoke is no where near the Lew's. I bought a Smoke at the Houston Fishing Show last year. As you mentioned, it looks great and is smooth out of the box. I took it on an extended weekend trip on Big Lake and it showed it's true colors. Fished day one, with no issues and left my rods/reels in the boat overnight. Got on the water the next day, picked up the smoke and tried to cast and well, it was locked up tight. Couldn't even turn the handle as the saltwater had just killed it. Took it back and exchanged it for a Lew's Tourney Pro and haven't looked back.

Smoke may be good for bass fishing, but not for yellowmouths...

Yeh that's what I figured about the Smoke. That is wouldn't hold up to salt water. The guy that had it is strictly a bass fisherman. I told him it probably wouldn't hold up in salt water. Few years back my dad bought a few Quantum reels from a guy that had a good deal on them. They lasted a few trips and that was it. Thanks for the info. For now just sticking with my Curados, but might give a Lews a try in the near future.

as mentioned in other posts, the smoke is great in freshwater but fails instantly in saltwater, which is a shame because they really feel smooth.

I was never a big brad fan but I love Fins for topwater or fishing baits like Manic Mullets or Corkys
