The Pirogue Maker
A little long but well worth watching. After watching the video, you will understand why Pirogues are no longer made from scratch. There is a lot of work/time in building one from a cypress tree. www.folkstreams.net/film%2c188 |

There was a pirogue maker named Jack Duhon in Creole. He made them and mud boat hulls. He could do magic with wood... |

Good video Mr. Glenn, does anyone know why he drilled a blind hole and then plugged it? swglenn built a nice little pirogue out of plywood.
I can imagine how difficult it would be making one out of a cypress log without power tools. Remember the old pirogues at the Florence club? They were longer and wider and made of plywood but they could transport the guide, his dog, two sports and all their gear. We sat on little folding seats and the guide stood up and poled the boat from the back - those were the days. I'll bet "southerngentleman" remembers. |

I am guessing to check thickness, seems like he drilled more than one hole and had some sort of guage stick he used to stick in the holes... |

That sounds logical, checking thickness.
