There is a launch on ryan st but like these guys said its a sketchy part of town mixed with a bunch of river camps

X2 on launching at Ryan street... sketchy at best.. if you want to fish that area, the launch at the saltwater barrier is just a short peddle from there. you can launch under the I-10 bridge too. there's also a launch in westlake caller Riverside park on Smith Ferry road.

I think its good that you started with a paddle. You will appreciate the Mirage drive that much more once you get one.
