Default Metal 55 gallon drums

Anybody know where I can find a couple? I'm wanting to make an Ugly Dum Smoker and those things seem to be hard to come by.

I have a couple of old feeder drums up at the deer lease that I can bring home next time i go up there. I'm not gonna use em. Still in good shape with a few holes from the leg screws. Next trip probably won't be until late August or September.

After looking on the web, it says to use foo grade drums. Mine are painted on the inside. Probably not a good idea to use those.

That would be great if you could. Just let me know what you want for them. I'm really not in a rush. I have enough projects on my hand as it is!

That's what I would do. Season the Hell out of it then hit it with some high heat paint on the outside.

I have built 4 or 5 of these and eventually gave away as gifts or traded for something. They are great smokers and I never had much problem holding tips during warm weather but it can be a chore to hold temp in the winter.

Take your time, do it right and you will enjoy it. I mounted the ones I built on casters.

And if you can get two barrels and add and extra ring to give it a little more room is the ultimate. Gives you a lot of extra room on the top rack for big pieces of meat to cook without it being so close to the lid, or the lid possibly touching it.

And you can usually find the lids on eBay.

Might check with an environmental cleanup company, they tend to have allot of these on hand... Not sure if they are "food grade" or not, but worth a call...

Here's a lil trick for smoking w/ UDS in cold weather.Get you a small banjo burner and place in the bottom of the UDS. Hard pipe it to outside of drum . Quick gas connector on end of hard pipe. If you need extra heat you can fire up the burner. You will need a needle valve regulator for fine heat control .

The place in Prairieville was called Drums and containers. They are of the 173 exit about a mile, on Easley Melancon. You can see the building from the interstate .

Thanks for all the advice guys. Captchaz, I appreciate the offer, but Cutoff is pretty far from where I'm at.

Here is the place I got mine. It was a reconditioned drum in excellent shape that they gave to me. Yep, FREE! It had isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) in it. It also had a tan interior liner in it. This liner sucked donkey gonads to remove. Ended up burning 4 old pallets for over 12 hours and then taking a wire wheel to it. If I had to do it again I'd gladly pay for a brand new, unlined, open-end drum.

Talked to JohnPac, they didn't have any drums. Talked to C&G containers, and they wanted $93 a piece. Anyone else know if a place for drums around Lafayette?
