All I can say about these high end ice chest is,...... ICE ISN'T THAT EXPENSIVE!!!!!

I don't go offshore for days at a time. I usually hit the basin for 3/4 a day and my cheap ones work just fine! Also, I have access to an ice machine.

Don't forget, you also get a free sticker for the back glass of your truck with every high end cooler purchase. All the cool kids have them

you don't need a fancy pancy cooler unless you want to keep ice for 3-4 days. My igloo works just fine for our boat, and it'll keep ice far long enough for a days trip on the water. I have a smaller coleman extreme that I use for vacations, and as long as I keep it in the shade it'll hold ice for 4-5 days. Not much by the 5th day but there will be some ice.

Bought my Pelican at a store in Lafayette that specializes in Pelican cases. Cheaper than any online retailer

He mention he wanted to make the cooler a seat also, good luck with the igloos and the extemes with 300 pounds seating on it.

That is the big part of it, every time I use one as a seat it gets busted up fast. I myself weigh 300lbs, I would rarely stand on it but sometimes you do what you have to do. RTIC has my attention but are sold out, everyone on flea bay wants an arm and a leg for them at the moment. I will keep watching.

I plan on being down south a few times next week, maybe I'll bump into one of you. Thanks for the help and advice everyone.

Check out the Ozark Trail Coolers at Wal Mart. 26, 52, and 73qty coolers are 100, 150, and 200 bucks. Just bought a 26qt and it is made tough.

I would be using it for more than the boat as well.
I don't see why you have to keep ice cold for 3-4 days to justify a nice cooler. I often fish on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and don't clean my fish until Sunday or Monday. It's very nice to know my fish are fresh when I go to clean them. Also, ice is Not cheap as previously mentioned, at $2 for 10-16lbs, it adds up fast. I like buying it once and knowing my fish, food and drinks are good for days.

I use a 120qt K2 Cooler for my main seat and fish box and a 70qt for drinks and food. They work great, have an amazing warranty and you're supporting a local company. I much rather my money go to local people than a company out of state. You may find the cooler expensive but buying it helps feed the Familes of the 30-50 employees they most likely have. I've been using those coolers for 4 years and have had Zero issues.

You can get a Scratch and Dent 70qt for $250. Thats the one I have and have had zero issues.

Good point. I mostly want a cooler that will last a little longer than a cheaper one. I will look into the K2 coolers as well. Thanks for the input.

I shopped and shopped, I think I am going to go with the RTIC. They are currently out of stock but will go back in stock Mid May I was told by their Sales Department. I think the 65 will be a good size. Maybe my next boat will have better storage.

I'll toss in my 2-cents and say the Ozark Trail coolers are great, i have the 26qt and 53qt(52?) can't remember which one it is. Either way, we are really rough on coolers and they are both still in great shape - the 53qt holds ice for 3 days even with my kids grabbing something to drink every half hour lol.

Nice! One of my worries with that brand is I have read several reviews about the plugs leaking. Any issues with yours?

I don't know what you guys do to your ice chests but I have been using plain old igloo ice chests for 27 years and I'm only on my 3 one so...... I'm down maybe $150 total if that.

Same for me. I have 2 of the old green Igloo's that are both 32+ years old.

One has a bend in the lid after a 175+ lb lady stood on top of it to take a picture. I have tried to straighten it out using clamps but nothing worked.

I bought a 94 qt Igloo about 15 years ago, so the green ice chest are only used 6-10 times a year now.

I usually have issues with handles pulling out or the outer shell cracking and falling apart. I'll admit that I probably ride the line of abuse with most of mine but I want something that can take it.

Well, I took the advice to watch RTIC's site and caught their 65 on sale for $179.00 shipped. I will let y'all know what I think about it when it arrives. I got the tie downs as well.

Old thread, I've been working too much lately....haha

This is the chest, I like it so far. It was a little bigger than I expected, it sticks out past my center console about 3 inches on either side.
