Tekota 500 with 80# power pro. I use it for just about everything. Small enough to cast but big enough for some pretty big fish. I like using it for snapper mangroves ling and jiggin. K have it on an ugly stik |

Stay away from those penn combos. I had one and it broke on the third fish ever. The reel just gave out. Pox was there to see it. I got a tekota and trevala combo now and a saragosa and trevala spinning setup

Dang. Well I guess I can scratch those combos off the list. Should I get a rod with the rollers or regular guides and what length would be best?

I'm a big fan of the Ugly Stick Big Water Casting rods in 6 ft lengths. I have 6 of the above rods on my boat, and they are tough as nails and have the back bone to handle 50 lb power pro and fish up to 100 lbs if matched with a reel with sufficient line capacity. Still looking for the perfect reel, but I think my next set of reels will likely be the Diawa Saltist Line Counters. |

If you have a limited budget I would spend the majority of it on the reel.

Also wouldn't work very well for jigging IMO I've learned offshore gear is at least double inshore in price for comparable quality so take that into consideration. |
