Scratched a Mixed Bag
Went to Galveston surf yesterday hoping to get on the trout. Winds made a S/SSE switch and chopped up the surf . Couldn't get any on plastic or mid range Mirrolure. Went to live shrimp on a cork and caught 1 nice keeper bout 20 in. After that nuttin but dinks just under 15 in. After taking a beating from the waves, switched to Carolina Rig w/ live shrimp & dead shrimp and caught 3 reds, 2 drum and a number of large channel mullet/whiting.
Finally got to get out and hit it. |

Better than sitting at a desk! I heard somebody at work talk about whiting. They said it was a good eating fish. Is this true or they were messing with me?

They are excellent! The ones I caught were pretty big (11 - 17 inches). The bigger ones fooled me cause I thought they were rat reds at first. Pretty good fight also. I can get good fillets off of them. I will fry em up w/ trout and you would never tell the difference.

If you are talking about gulf kingfish, they are excellent. They look something in between a croaker and redfish
