Default Advice Please Gents

I dont get to post often due to rigorous work schedule but I need a little input from you gents.

My 10 yr old nephew and his best friend have never been spec or red fishing. I wanna take them but I have no boat and cant afford a charter right now.

Is there any good pier or jetty fishing withing driving distance of say Alexandria?

I have all the lures and equipment because I make my own lures and I used to own a tackle shop in San Antonio, Tx.

What advice can you give and where should I go?

Thanks in advance.

Keith

Grand isle is probably your best bet . if you stay at one of the motels on either end of the island they have lighted piers for night fishin . you can surf fish during the day and / or fish the hwy bridges .

Grand Isle fo sho! Not sure if they allow camping on Elmer's? They used to on Fourchon and that is fun. You can fish on the side of the hwy and catch reds. Hit the surf at daylight and fish for reds in the enin. Crabs are running good in the surf too, they will have a blast

You can camp at the East end of the island. State Park.

Thanks gents for the input...my last weekend off before going on a 60 day straight stretch is next weekend. I plan to take the boys down for some fun and hopefully build some great memories. Will post pics and results and hopefully some great smiles.

I'd bet with what you'd spend on fuel/food/lodging etc for an overnight trip to Grand Isle would be more than what a day trip to Big Lake with a guide would cost. You could leave Alexandria taking 165 to I-10 and be on Big Lake not pulling a boat within about 2-2.5 hours of driving compared to around 6 to Grand Isle. Not to mention you'll probally catch way more with a guide than on your first trip to somewhere new.

What dates do you plan on doing this ? If you would like to come to Big lake we might can get you on some fish if the weather and our schedules work out.
