Default Feeding Deer

This has probably been covered but.....last year the deer came to corn like crazy. This year they're basically just nibbling a little of it and that's all. Like a gallon of corn sits there for 2 weeks. Also tried oats and rice brand, nada.

In North Carolina, at my brothers cabin, the deer come to the food gong. They love corn.

A couple years ago a friend south of Corpus Christi said the deer were turning up their nose to corn too. Got to be more to it than acorns or whatever. Any facts...Ideas?

It's Obama corn. The best corn goes to ethanol production. aunt jemima gets the second best for corn meal. The rest is deer corn.

Trump gonna fix it all and next year you will be shooting booners over corn

Deer prefer acorns. More oil/fat.. If there are acorns near they will eat those and leave corn alone for the most part. Some do to the fact that they don't have to travel far for food and some to the fact that it has a high content of fat to help them out on weight for the winter.

Try soybeans. They aren't cheap but are higher in fat than corn

Plant you a loquat tree,,,japan plum....Only thing is you better put a wire cage around it cause they will eat the trunk to the ground...Put a 3 foot diameter 2x4 fence wire 3 feet high around it and it will regenerate as they eat...I gave 2 to my nefew and he planted them and did not put a fence like i told him and in 2 weeks they were gone...3/4 inch trunks ate to ground....Year round food supply...

How dry is it on your place?

I can almost guarantee the deer are close to a water source.

I was thinking the same thing. I know they won't hit the rice bran unless they have some water nearby to wash it down with. Corn maybe the same way, idk

Get you a couple of sweet feed blocks from a feed store. Put them close to a water source where you can see them from a stand.

try addin a cup of milk, a scoop of sugar, tbsp. Of salt and a stick of butter and boil it for about an hour. When it's done top it off with chopped parsley.

Buy the big bottle of vanilla at the Dollar General store. Pour it on top of the corn and the will eat every bit of it.

We did away with feeders on our place 2 years ago because of pigs. We have seen very few pigs since then and killed more deer.

Get out of than nice and warm box blind and hunt the natural food sources. You will be surprised what you will see.

90% of what I hunt are the bottoms in the middle of pine forest. Most places I cant see more than 50 yards and I see more deer than I ever did when I hunted the box stands.

This is your answer. There is a bumper crop of acorns this year and they will be around for a while unless we get some rain.

I think with the dry weather the acorns have dropped and the deer are eating them rather than the corn

If you are hunting private land find a couple of oaks that the deer are feeding under now. Fertilize the heck out of those 2 trees starting as soon as the season is over By the second year the deer will walk past acorns to get to those trees.

Appreciate the response. For those who suggested going "natural", let me tell you. 50 years ago I started climbing trees and sitting on tree limbs for hours. In North Georgia, after you sat in a tree for max 2 days, time to move because the deer had u patterned.

Then came the bear hugging, self tree climbers. Remember the occasional 30' slide down a pine tree. Most of us over 50 do. Most of this was on "public land"/ WMA's.

Then came a couple of 2X4"'s nailed between a fork in a tree. Now this was the pinnacle of luxury. Still is.... to this day...... No box stands, yet in totally controlled, poacher free land, they should work well.
