Question Crabbing In Venice

I'm planning a fishing trip to Venice for Mid May and plan on bringing my girlfriend that has ever been around salt water. I wanted to give her the full experience of a place that I love to Fish and hangout for a week eating great food. However I don't know if there is any crabs in May???? Would this be a waste of my time or does anyone think it's worth while and maybe you can tell me of an area to set a few traps? Thanks in advance!!!! Ray

cant speak specific to venice but you should do very well since they are catching good amounts all around in other areas, they are running a little on the smaller side I find right now n lake ponchatrain but they are biting good everywhere AFAIK

caught half a bushel each time the last two fridays I went out crabbing

I threw back around 8-10 little 2" crabs for every one I kept and most of those were the smaller #3 size

I bet I could have filled a bushel basket to the top with all them little 2" crabs

Shouldn't be a waste of time.

Thanks for your replys.... I will definantly set a few nets out.... We're going down there for a week, it will be fun checking the traps inbetween running after the Reds and Specks.... She's never done any of this before, so I know she will be excited the whole week we're down there. I already got her a pair of the White Reeboks

Be careful not to create a monster. I have a buddy that introduced his wife to fishing and crabbing and the only time he can get away from her to fish is to come with me. She HATES me, like really really hates me. I don't like her either so it works out.

If you set out traps you have to have a crabbing license. If you use a crab net or a line with bait and a net no problem. The road between Venice Marina and Cypress Cove is a hot spot.

I was looking at a map..... Would you be talking about Tide Water Road or somewhere along Sugar Lake Bayou? Thanks...
