Default Possible move to FL, Advice needed.

Current job status:
Automation engineer in Mandeville
Company stopped matching 401k in 2014
Company gave salary employees 5% pay cut in 2015
Company has shrunk from 50+ employees to 26.
I love my job, but it is oil dependent and things aren't looking good.

I may have a job offer for a company in Southeast Alabama. Most employees live in Pensacola and a few in Mobile. I would probably choose Pensacola, but does anyone have any experience living there? I vacation there, but I'm sure it's different living there...

New Job:
Automation and controls engineer
Diverse company looking to expand
No 401k matching since 2008
My pay would increase about 20%

Enjoy it if you can get it. We had a hard look at P'cola and applied for a bunch of jobs there when we ended up moving to Baton Rouge in 2013. Lots of fishing opportunities.

You might try Pensacola Fishing Forums for more practical advice: lots of locals there. Not as friendly as SC, but not too bad.

Florida Doesn't have state income tax. so you can add that to your salary.

I'd move there, I love the beach.

Congrats man. Enjoy it. I'd love to be that close to those beaches and all that fishing.

And you can walk out your front door and watch the Blue Angels practice when they are home.

I lived in Pensacola for 2 years and absolutely loved it. Great beaches. Really good fishing. People were really nice. Job ended and I couldn't find another decent paying job or I would still be there.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm still pretty nervous about it. Still hunting for some real estate.
