Jugs
Has/does anyone use them ? I remember a thread about what to use for bait a week or so ago, but nothing on regulations... I watched a 2 liter coke bottle "swim" by this weekend and it kinda gave me the bug... We used to set them at the duck lease when we were teenagers, but that was some time ago... Thanks, Hydro |

The large mouth sport drinks work the best (IMO), I use a slip knot on the line and put the hook and line in the bottle when storing the bottles. They aren't tangled when I am ready for fishing. For me the 2 ltr bottle catches too much wind and you end up chasing them. I've caught several 20 - 30 lb fish on 20 oz bottles, yea they pull em under, but for short distances. Thats a big cork to keep down any time. Bait I use is anything from cut to bream or shad. If I don't think I can catch fresh bait then I will use weenies cut to bite size pieces covered in garlic powder. I then microwave it for a couple of minutes. I went last weekend and am going back Friday night. Good way to keep catfish in the freezer. Not any laws that I know of, but try to pick them all up when you are ready to go home. I paint my jugs white so they are easier to locate with a spot light when its time to go home.

Jugs are considered a set line in the regs, same as a trotline.

Cut up some swimming pool noodles. They work well. Easy to spot also.

Do you have to put your name and other info on the jug itself, like your supposed to do with a trot-line ??? Thanks for all the info guys... Hydro |

In this area there are no requirements for "tagging" your trot lines or jugs. It may be a good idea to tag them so you can identify them is someone else tries to pick them up.

Yep, I actually used some hose on a few and that worked better IMO

I didnt put pvc through mine and had a fish rip the line through the noodle. Lucky my son still has all his fingers. Fish just about pulled him over board. We think it was a gar.

I like the hose idea. Might have to try that one.

What size hooks do you guys use??? I usually use an 8/0 but have used 6's. I don't like anything smaller due to they have a tendency to rip loose from a large fish. (My experience)

For gar, I use a 5/0 treble hook and catfish I use a 4/0 single hook. Warren |
