I have run: Cajun Specials, Bass Trackers, WeldBilts, AlWelds, Custom Flats, and my Ambush. My 1556 Ambush is the driest boat I have run across Big Lake, not counting my ProCraft. It really surprised me. It was no air cushioned ride, but it was dry. If I had it to do over, and I will, I would get a longer boat than 15' just to span the waves instead of jumping them.

When i was younger we fished everywhere on big lake, even on windy days in an alluminum boat.

Know all launches and whichever direction wind is blowing : drive to that side of lake and launch. Jetties, west cove, hog island, spicer, ellender, calcasieu point, heberts, Prein and even 210.

I would offer you a test ride, but I had a spinal fusion 7 weeks ago. Dr does not want me in a boat for a few months. It's torturing me, this is the time of year I start fishing Lacassine. I can still arrange a ride.

I had a 1552 AlWeld with the 40/50 tohatsu 4 stroke. It was the best riding boat I ever owned. They are a well built heavy boat.

So the alweld rode better than the ambush? Was the ambush just drier?

Ambush was drier. AlWeld rode better, heavier.

Good strategy haha.
I've been out there in August and I'm not sure how an outboard would make it.

You are right, I don't know what I was thinking. No open water, no fish, no boats, like a desert out there.

I can vouch for the no boats part. I fished it this past Saturday and I didn't see a boat. There were 3 trucks at the landing including mine.
