Drop shot experience

Anyone have any experience on our local river systems using the drop shot technique? It looks appealing especially during the dog days of summer. Just not sure if it would be a reliable technique for rivers here. Rivers like sabine or calcasieu. Looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions.

I am very interested to know if anyone has used this with success as well. I always mark fish in deep water on the river and have tried the drop shot many times with no results (not sure what kind of fish they are though...).

I know it's probably not what you're looking for, but I've had success with a drop shot rig in saltwater when fish are suspended a bit off the bottom. Sometimes they've hit that better than a regular jighead...guess it stayed in the strike zone longer so it got bit.

I'm 300% confident you can catch a bass anywhere drop shotting.

I have used the drop shot rig a good bit at false river (New Roads) w/ much success. Never tried it in a current?

Thanks for the input so far. With our river system here there isn't from what i have seen a typical drop shot fishery. The northern section of river has current most of the time. But when you get closer to moss bluff it becomes tidal. We don't have long points or secondary points like you see on some other rivers or lakes. Yes we have steep bluffs, cuts, and a lot of fallen trees.

I use this in the pass for reds and drum where the current is strong. Sometimes the crabs are thick and will tear up your bait on the bottom.

Also have tried it with a crickets for bream. wore them suckers out. We had 2 boats, total of 6 people and no one came close tot he fish i caught using a dropshot.

the dropshot works. No reason it would not work for you. also, dont limit yourself to just bass with either.

Sounds like a shakey head jig might work better than a drop shot rig in your area

It does work, I've used it around docks a lot. A buddy of mine uses a heavier drop shot on his baitcasting gear with a 7-8" worm texas rigged.

Thanks everyone for your input! I ordered me some weights, hooks and robo worms! Gonna try and hit the calcasieu this weekend, prolly sunday. I will let you know how i do!
