Default Crazy things about wildlife

The wife and I were fishing on Calcasieu River. When squirrels fight in a tree, they make a weird sound(heard it a thousand times before) however, on this day----- it was different. after hearing this sound and THUD besides our boat, the squirrel was still making this sound on the ground. As I got a little bit closer, this is what I saw........Keep in Mind they both came out the tree together....

What a great thing to witness! Darwin in action. Years back I was about to wrap up an evening squirrel hunt; it was just after sunset. There were two young squirrels on a large oak branch 'twirling' off acorns on the end of the limb. Suddenly one of them freezes then runs about 4 feet back onto the main limb and flattens himself against the limb. About a second later this form swoops out of the semi-darkness, rips the still feeding squirrel out of the branches and flies off, leaves falling in the wake. A great horned owl had his/her supper for that night. I was so happy to not have killed the two...I figured I would let them get a little bigger; the owl thought otherwise.

It always seemed to me like the Calcasieu and Houston Rivers have a lot of snakes. More than usual.

I worked at a house on Contraband Bayou in Lake Charles where I heard similar noises in a tree. Two squirrels were attacking a large rat snake. Apparently it was heading towards their nest and so they circled around it, biting it on the tail and back until it finally fell out of the tree to the ground. The snake was at least 5' long and those squirrels didn't back down. It turned out better for them than for the one in the video.
