Dance Chicot info

Planning a trip to stay at chicot state park. When is the best times to start fishing for bass or crappie? I have never been there so any advice would be very appreciated. Taking the family for 3-4 days.

Mid to late Feb is usually good I prefer north campground and landing. The south is more conducive to kids and cause of that usually more crowded. I will share a secret with yall. When they have bass tournaments they weigh and release at the north landing some of the fish hang around and dont go far when winter bass fishing dont start ya motor you can pick up a couple before ya get to the lake. I cant believe I told yall this. It's been my secret since ........... well a long time

Thanks for the info so far fellas. A fellow angler told me to fish around the trees in the off the banks flipping for big bass during the spawning time. He said watermelon blue is a good color and so was the traditional blk/blu.

I've fished it a few times since being re-opened. The lake is still on the rise with every rain we get. Still about 2ft low. I've caught a few but had to fish hard for them. Right now, the main channel is full of gizzard shad about 4" long. 95 % of the grass mats are gone which is where I USED to catch most of my good fish. Swimjigs and cranks is what I've caught on this week.
